Agenda: 

1. Commander Bowers and Sergeant Auguste on Neighborhood Safety and Crime / The Mission

  • D-Detail, 19 additional officers patrol the area, highlighted times we see

  • Commander Bowers, N Precinct- been on police department for 16 years

  • Comprehensive overview of crime

  • North – closer to hotter months, uptick in crimes, aggravated assaults, more people outside and gatherings

  • April and May for 37208 – forcible crime – all 0

  • Aggravated assaults- 3 (most are isolated incidents)

  • Vehicle Crime – 6th – May – there were 5- theft motor vehicles compared to April only 2

  • Ring Report- sign up for free, police department receives those reports, gives the police department a radius of where the crimes are happening, videos are received by police

  • Park Smart – locking car, taking valuables out, take keys, 

  • Vehicle Crime Section – car was stolen, vehicle was left running

  • Sheds, carport – look for valuables

  • Month of May - 50 extra patrols in area

  • Sky Cop – installed at The Mission – has minimized a lot of incidents at The Mission, picks up multiple angles on the streets

  • 7th and Garfield – there is a camera that is there, process of putting a new camera and blue light

  • Councilmen Kupin and Commander Bowers are combining for CRASE free training – response to active shooter events

  • Avoid, deny, defend – teaches proper response

  • Looking to future dates for Salemtown residents to participate

  • A. Auguste spoke. She is the community coordinator, doing community patrol

  • Vehicle Break-ins Lighting is a big issue, make sure light poles are out – look at number and request on HUB 

  • Parking wrong way on street – report to HUB Nashville

  • Don’t leave valuables, glove box – lock it to keep them from getting the registration to get another key to a vehicle

  • Car break ins and thefts go hand in hand

  • Speeding can address by speed bumps – neighborhood can look at

  • Private security groups might be in the neighborhood because of CMA fest

  • If homeless people are just on the street – police can’t or don’t really do anything

  • Packages – don’t just leave them out for too long

  • Any other questions – send to Cindy and she will get to Commander Bowers

  • 10 new streetlights on 7th avenue, make take a few days or in the next week for them to light up, NES will put a light on any pole they have, report to HUB

  • Parking- Councilmen Kupin meeting with NDOT for 2 hr parking on 7th near the Distro 

2. Holly Ragsdale, CEO of Homebase Creative gave an overview of the new website

  1. Member News portal – private to only members (meeting minutes, special announcements just for members)

  2. Link to Hub Nashville also so you can link directly from the website 

  3. Events – check out on the site

  4. Member Dues – can set as an annual donation as an auto pay, Venmo option as well

3. Cultivar – New Cocktail Bar Coming to Salemtown Late 2025

  • James, Nick, Vinnie attended, 4th member – Storm

  • Roughly 15 years in business, currently at Urban Cowboy

  • Focusing on good quality and experience, craftsman style home

  • Focusing on acoustics, relax vibe, partnering GI Cave Acoustics, come in with microphones to heighten the sound acoustics

  • Installations by local artists

  • Jeff Zeitlin spoke on why he wanted to bring Cultivar to the neighborhood, feels very good about it and right across the street

  • Hope to open October 

  • Around 40-45 seats, small patio

  • Small plates, vegan options, Nonalcoholic, looking to collaborate with Gabby at Basket Case

  • Hours of Operations: 7 days a week, 4-11/12

  • Weekend hours – maybe 12

  • Employee parking – Street parking, there is parking in the back

  • People standing on street waiting for tables – someone on staff to manage – porch on front for people to wait so they aren’t loitering on the street 

  • Parking issue – Can discuss with Kupin

  • How to make it not be a Mother’s Ruin type

    • Product not aimed at people trying to get out of hand

    • More neighborhood focused

    • They all 4 will be bartending and overseeing operations

    • The commercial zoning - no parking requirements for Nashville in urban area

    • Good neighborhood agreement – keeping noise down outside, etc. - Cultivar wants to sign agreement with Salemtown neighborhood

4. Safety

  • Garfield Ave – approved for speed humps, they have to do a study, that’s in motion, probably a year out

  • 3rd and Coffee – Kupin meeting with NDOT, improvements to crosswalk to dog park

  • Get the builder of city to cut the hedge down

  • 4 way stop at 4th and Hume – was asked for 

  • Rosa Park where the Mission is – the crosswalk – Inspiritus – redeveloping the crosswalk

5. Social Events:

  • Update: 60-70 people attended Summer Kick-Off at Bearded Iris

  • Pink Flamingos will be back in the fall
