Communication:
- The primary way you can communicate with SNNA is by emailing [email protected] or by filling out the Q uestions & Feedback form on the home page of the Salemtown Neighbors Website
- For meetings, reminders about events and meetings will first be posted on social media (Instagram and Nextdoor) a few days before the event, and then an event reminder text message will be sent 24 hours prior to the event.
- If you are not currently receiving text messages but would like to be informed through this medium, please email [email protected] to be added.
- Want to know about upcoming events before they are posted to social media? View our official SNNA Calendar!
- SNNA currently has 40 paying members. We are close to reaching the SNNA participation record in 2016 which was 59 members. We ask that active members please continue to communicate SNNA's mission and events to neighbors so we can grow our influence and further connect our community.
- Our first SNNA Social Event, the March neighborhood cleanup was a huge success with over 30 neighbors helping to collect over 20 bags of trash.
- Since litter continues to be a problem in the neighborhood, we are considering increasing the frequency of cleanups. Once the frequency is determined, it will be added to our neighborhood calendar.
- We will continue to plan opportunities to foster both community engagement and fellowship:
- Members have contacted administration from local elementary schools (Jones Paideia Elementary Magnet School and Hull Jackson Montessori School) to identify volunteer opportunities such as teacher appreciation, mentorship and tutoring. We are starting with elementary schools, but as we identify impactful opportunities we will inquire with local middle school and high school administration.
- Pink Flamingo Happy Hours will officially begin in May (although this start date can be flexible, we won't say "no" to neighbors wanting to spend more time together!). We will need hosts for these events, so please view our neighborhood calendar to see what date require a host and reach out to us via the Questions & Feedback form on our home page, email [email protected], or reach out to us on social media. *Reminder* these events are BYOB/BYOFood and hosted in our neighbors front yards. This ensures our hosts are not overburdened with event preparation or cleanup.
- Move! Music City, a local 501 (c)(3) organization with a mission to empower students to live a healthier lifestyle, will be hosting a fundraising event at Sonny's on March 24th at 6:00pm. There will be a musical performance and incredible raffle items donated by local businesses. For more information to purchase tickets, please visit their website www.movemusicity.com/fundrasing-events/sonny-s-patio-happy-hour
- There is no requirement that social events need to large, happen at set intervals or have a formal structure. If there is a local event or cause that directly impacts Salemtown and your neighbors, please reach out to SNNA to promote it.
- SNNA Formal Meeting Speakers:
- SNNA will reconnect with MNPD's North Precinct and have Community Coordinator Sergeant James Freeman speak at our formal meetings to deliver a recurring Safety Update
- We are asking Salemtown Neighbors to help SNNA identify developments that are impacting the neighborhood so we can ensure developers plan their projects with the best interest of the neighborhood in mind. If you are curious about development, please send SNNA the address of the development and we will work to bring the developer to a formal SNNA meeting to discuss their plans and solicit feedback.
- 2023 Elections - If there are candidates you would like to hear from, please contact SNNA so we can have candidates join us for a formal meeting to take questions about their plans for the role and how it will impact our neighborhood for the better.
- To the rest of Nashville, Salemtown and Germantown are viewed as a single neighborhood. This should be no surprise to those of us who live here since both the Historic Germantown Neighborhood Association and Salemtown Neighbors Neighborhood Association are highly involved in the community and share similar missions. Councilperson Freddie O'Connell will work with us this year to better connect our organizations and balance strengths and weaknesses. E.g., Germantown has a strong public art initiative and their experience could be shared with SNNA to benefit our community as well.

Big Picture
The theme for 2022 is “Bring a Neighbor”. It has been difficult for us to connect the past two years but this year we want to rebuild that sense of community and familiarity with our neighbors.
This year, we hope to reach a goal of 40-50 households actively participating in SNNA

Meetings
- Meetings will continue to be held at Morgan Recreation Center this year
- 411 Hume St, Nashville, TN 37208
- Parking lot and entrance to the building is off Hume Street
- The front desk attendant will assist you in finding the meeting room once inside.
- Based on feedback, meetings will now start at 6:30PM
- We will have a 30 minute BYOB/snacks Happy Hour starting at 6PM to allow you to get to chat with your neighbors!
- Odd months (January, March, May, etc.) will be formal meetings - safety reports from Commander Anthony McClain, meeting local representatives, hearing from local developers, etc.
- Even months (February, April, June, etc.) will be social meetings - neighborhood clean ups, beautification efforts, neighborhood strolls, or seasonal parties!
Discussion
- Recycling will be back on February 1, 2022
- Feedback requested from neighbors and considerations for 2022
- Beautification and social events were a theme for the night’s discussion
- Bring back Pink Flamingo happy hour parties in the summer
- Hold additional happy hours at local businesses (not related to formal monthly meetings)
- Interests in creating clubs, such as a book club, walking club, gardening club, etc.
- Interest in researching potential neighborhood grants that can be used to improve our community (e.g. ornamental street lamps, refreshing Salemtown historic signage, etc.)
- More engagement with local developers at meetings to hear about and influence plans for the benefit of the community.
- With respect to community engagement
- The Member at Large remains vacant. Please submit nominations to [email protected]
- We will begin going door to door with SNNA to refresh interest and reacquaint ourselves with neighbors.
- As we get more active members, we want to focus on getting engagement from every block. We are hoping to implement “block captains” who will be responsible for ensuring those within their block are aware of our organization and our events.
- T-SHIRTS! - we are in the process of creating new t-shirts for 2022. We want SNNA to be highly visible throughout the neighborhood. Every new member will get a shirt when they pay SNNA membership dues. If there are multiple members in a household, additional shirts will be $15/shirt.
